Community Involvement
· Two large Rivers Day celebrations
· Five successful Earth Day celebrations on the bank of Baker Creek
· Oceans Day, environment week, wildlife week awareness activities
· Open house for the urban landowners along Baker Creek with slide
presentations and their views of their needs for the area
· Consultations with the residents and logging companies in the watershed
to discuss their concerns
· Various stewardship programs with schools, Boy Scouts and Guides
· Community hikes and cleanups within the watershed
· Canada World Youth, Youth Services Canada, Youth Entrepreneurs
and the Environmental Youth Tour programs have all done volunteer
work with us
· Worked with Narcosli School children to design a watershed sign.
Parents are donating labour and material for sign kiosk.
· Planning partner for the Fraser 2000, Fin Donnelly swim. Over 200
participants.
· Development of a Nature Education and Resource Centre. Over $54,000
leveraged in donated labour, materials, equipment and furniture
· Provide representation on various planning committees ( Quesnel
2020, timber certification, Official Community Planning for City
and Regional District, Communities in Bloom, Trails Development,
New Community Campus Landscape Committee, Airshed Roundtable, )

Employment and Economic Achievements
· One and a half staff who deliver, coordinate, facilitate the
stewardship, education and restoration programs
· Four Coop students who completed;
1. The identification and mapping of twenty priority work sites
for the restoration of Baker Creek
2. The development of a comprehensive mapping portfolio which includes;
priority restoration sites, reach designations, dominant substrate
composition types, water flow rates, salmon spawning values, salmon
rearing values, the 200 year flood zone, land use corridors, zoning
corridors, official community plan designations, high slope regions
and storm water out fall locations
3. Phase one of the development guidelines for riparian set backs
4. Compiles all fish and stream data from various sources onto
two sets of map sheets.
· Six Environmental Youth Teams who accomplished stream bank restoration,
fencing, trail building, bridge construction, sign construction,
school and community presentations, tours of spawning pink salmon,
creation of numerous models and teaching aids for watershed stewardship
activities, plantings, water quality and quantity tests on Baker
Creek, Narcosli Creek, Naver Creek and the Cottonwood.
· Various work crews doing planting, fencing, bioengineering.
· Numerous local contractors and laborers.
· Over $1,000,000 brought into community for Fish Habitat
Restoration and watershed stewardship.
· Approximately $1,750,000 leveraged from In-Kind contributions
from area businesses and citizens.
· Approximately 80 direct short term jobs and numerous indirect jobs
for contractors, materials, and supplies.
· All materials and supplies are purchased locally.
· Baker Creek's mandate includes providing opportunities
for employing and training local youth.

Completed
· Level 1 assessment of the watershed. The operating mills have
since completed level 2 and 3.
· Removed 65 car bodies and 70 loads of asphalt and cement blocks
from the creek
· Set up a naturescape in the Wilma Hanson Park and worked with the
City on plans for the Baker Creek Park
· Various restoration and stewardship projects on Baker Creek, Narcosli
Creek, Naver Creek, Dragon Creek and wetland
· Three Chinook rearing channels
· A fencing project on Narcosli creek.
· Trail, bridge and benches at Chinook Salmon rearing channel
· Implementation of riparian setbacks in the Official Community Plan
· A community Baker Creek watershed sign for City Park
· A Narcosli watershed sign created with local school kids and parents
· A compilation of all fish data onto two sets of mapsheets.
· An inventory of fish distribution and associated habitat on Narcosli
Creek.
· A set of prescriptions for riparian planting along Narcosli
Creek
· Development of a Nature Education and Resource Centre with donated
labour, material, equipment and furniture
· Plant Inventory of Wetland
· Reconnaissance of Hydrology, Invasive Species, Bird Species and
mammals at Wetland in West Fraser Timber Park
· Development of Educational Trails in upland and wetland areas of
West Fraser Timber Park
· Development of over 6 km of Education Trails etc.
· Signage and viewing platforms developed to use in nature interpretation
· Silt Cloth-Storm Drain awareness project with West Park Mall
