School Programs

Stream to Sea · Wildlife, Habitats and Ecosystems · Sustainable Living and Air Quality · Natural Fun! camp program · Non Instructional Programs

School programs are generally 1-1.5 hours for one lesson. Fees are $2/student per lesson. Teachers may combine with other classes to economize transportation, but please be aware we only have one education staff and inside space for one class at a time. Arrangements may be possible for Nature Centre volunteers to lead activities or hikes for a second class, or teachers may be asked to lead a self-guided lesson while waiting your turn to use the Centre.

Regional Landscape Field Education Program

High School students from Quesnel and Williams Lake get opportunities to experience the UNBC Quesnel River Research Centre either through class vitisits or mentoring with local researchers. Call the Nature Education Research Centre for more information.

Lessons usually follow this format:

5 min Meet and Greet
10 min Tour the Centre
20 min Topic introduction: short motivational lesson or game
40 Learning outcome development: may be a hike, an active game or a project
15 min Summary: regroup and relate the lesson to lifestyle choices

Some considerations when you visit the park:

You must bring at least one parent/volunteer/staff per 8 students.
Bring your own drinks as there is no water fountain.
Be prepared to be outside in any weather. Trails may be wet, muddy, snowy, slippery, buggy or prickly at different times of the year.
Wear sturdy footwear that can get muddy and wet. No flipflops, sandals, etc.
There is wildlife in the park, so be aware of staying together, not littering, etc.
